InterContinental Perth City Centre: The Bubble Windows That Outlived Three Identities

Walk Past WA No. 1 · Bubble-window facade, corner of King & Hay Streets, Perth

Look closely at the windows. Those bubble-shaped panes are the one detail that survived three complete identities.

From office block to hotel, twice

Built as an office block in the 1970s, it became a Rydges hotel in 1997. After a major refurbishment stripped it back to its structure, it reopened in 2017 as the InterContinental Perth City Centre, with a penthouse level by Woods Bagot.

Which Perth building do you walk past every day and never notice?

Walk Past WA is a weekly series on the Western Australian buildings most of us walk past without noticing. One building each week, photographed by architect and photographer Boris Poznovia. This is No. 1.

Need your own building photographed the way it was designed to be seen? See my architectural photography services or get in touch about your project.
